Speaking of quilts! We see them all the time or rather we see things that are quilted from blankets to clothing and even some luggage. According to Wikipedia, quilted objects go all the way back to ancient Egypt. There are many different types of quilts and techniques.
The basic of a quilt itself has three layers, the top, the bottom, and the batting in between and then they're sewn together. They can be sewn by hand or there are special types of machines that do the quilting. One can also use a regular sewing machine to quilt it, but it's a lot more difficult.
There are so many different types of quilts and different styles. Each country has their own specialty. Like I said, quilting was my mother's passion, so whatever her specialty was, is mine for the benefit of this post. :)
Goodness, I'm researching different types of quilting for the benefit of this post and the types my mother used and I see she used so many different techniques. She was really talented!!
Did you ever hear of postcard quilts? She did that too. There were a group of people, in this case all women, and they would make a postcard quilt and send it to each other. Every month they had a theme and each woman used their talent and imagination. It's amazing what people come up with!
She normally made wall hanging quilts, but I can recall three full bed quilts she made. They weren't made for warmth, but for decoration. The best of the three was for her cousin. She was or is an I Love Lucy fan and it's all about Lucy.
Coming soon...bottle cap, cancer story, holocaust quilt and more...
